What an absolutely wonderful story! Made me tear up at the end. We had a situation exactly like that in my neighborhood, except it was a college graduation. All the neighbors lined the streets—nobody close to anyone else—and hooped and cheered when the parade went by. I took pictures on my phone and texted them to her parents.
Don’t know about Illinois, but southeast Michigan is still good about masks and distancing and totally taking this seriously. Some other parts of the state are not so much. But most of us here (even republicans) are being careful, especially after we have read about the lingering effects after Covid recovery. Those effects include problems with the brain. That scares me a lot.

I’m glad you enjoyed it, Jane. Even though it was quite short, I spent several weeks fine-tuning it. Your comments make it all worth the effort!
