Dr. Nekros: Volume II Is On the Way!

It’s hard to believe that my bi-monthly serial, Dr. Nekros, will embark upon the second volume at the end of the month.  I won’t spoil the first volume’s ending, but suffice it to say, things concluded rather precariously … and (I hope) unexpectedly.

So what can you expect to happen in the six episodes comprising Volume II?  It starts by going back … way back to 1923 in fact as we explore the relationship between two men named Zaffin Scribner and Crispin Vadenburgh and what happens when a primal force by the name of Mardella Webb enters their lives.  From thence we check in on the Nekros investigations and its newest ghost hunter, we must bear witness to Xaphan and his apparently dark princes, we again experience the ongoing grudge match between Anton and Lillian, we learn how Micah and Zetta first met as well as why he no longer speaks to his parents, and finally we have some characters rescued, some resuscitated, and others ravaged.

If you’ve been following the good Doctor’s exploits, I thank you.  If you’re new to Micah and Zetta, not to worry, there’s never been a better time to jump on board.  Remember, Dr. Nekros is ALWAYS willing to make house calls …

Dr. Nekros: An Abhorrent Culmination (Volume I, Episode VI)

This is it! In this final episode of Dr. Nekros: Volume I, the good
doctor and his ex-wife, Zetta, finally come face to face with the
monster Xaphan in Zetta’s own home! For months, Zetta’s mission has
been to save Dr. Nekros from the red fiend, but now that her husband,
Jason, and her two boys are in danger as well, Zetta must make a
difficult choice. Be warned – this is an abhorrent culmination, no one
is safe, and blood will be spilled.

Thanks To Amazon Shorts

Well, friends, it’s unfortunate that Amazon Shorts is no longer accepting submissions, but I think we all kind of figured that was bound to be the case after such a long hiatus.

I just wanted to thank Amazon Shorts and my fellow writers for giving it such a great go.  I read somewhere that Amazon Shorts may have been a bit ahead of its time, and I think there may be some truth to that.  My dealings with John were always professional and courteous, and I appreciated his patience and timeliness.  And though I rarely contribute to the forum, I follow it regularly and have really enjoyed getting to know my fellow writers.  Sometimes things got a little tense, but I could always detect the passion behind everyone’s words.  After all, if things were always comfortable and polite, then there was little chance of innovation and enlightenment.

Of course, I was very disappointed Amazon Shorts came to a close in regards to accepting new material.  I had developed a rough outline of an eighteen-part serial, so you can imagine my misery when Amazon Shorts went on break after only two of my installments had been published.

But, that’s just the way it goes in the arts.  No gig lasts forever, and I’m proud to have been part of Amazon Shorts and thank them for the opportunity.  As a bonus, I’ve decided to continue work on my serial (Dr. Nekros: Occult Aficionado), and will instead release it as a three-book series.  I plan to write it virtually the same way, with several installments making up a larger story, but now I have the advantage of being able to edit it all at once and make sure each episode clearly meshes with the others.

While it was a real rush to publish my serial in “real-time” and face the danger of logistical errors and contradictions, I’m happy Amazon Shorts motivated me to develop a storyline I feel excited about and characters I’ve already fallen deeply in love with.

I want to wish all the other Amazon Shorts writers the best of luck.  I look forward to seeing all the great things I know are in store for you.

Regards,
Scott William Foley

When You’re Cool Like Me

So, other than my “official” website, I like to post my book reports, uh, that is, my book reviews on Amazon.com.  Only the coolest people on planet Earth do that.  Now you may or may not know this, but people can actually vote on whether they found your review helpful or not.

Cool as I am, I’m no scientist.  That being said, I’ve discovered a trend, something on the scale of Ivan Pavlov . . . when you post a positive review, people vote on it as very helpful.  But, when you write a negative review, people vote that you weren’t helpful at all.  By the way, I have no idea if the Pavlov reference was accurate.  Run with me people, run with me.

Anyway, I happen to think that my reviews are always helpful, you know, because I’ve got a healthy ego.  Just because I write a bad review on a book, that doesn’t mean the review wasn’t helpful.  I simply point out what didn’t work for me.  I think people that read my reviews are so smitten with the author they’re looking at, they can’t fathom said author could ever write a book that wasn’t God’s gift.  I’ve got news for you folks, some writers can produce real stink bombs.  Myself excluded, of course.

So there we go.  I will now quote Forest Gump on the subject with, “That’s about all I have to say about that.”
