Blue Beetle is a fun superhero movie that introduces a new character to the DC Extended Universe. The film follows Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña), a recent college graduate who finds himself bound to an alien scarab that gives him superpowers. Jaime must learn to coexist with the entity within him while using his newfound abilities to protect his family and friends from a deadly threat.
Maridueña is incredibly likable as Jaime, bringing a sense of humor, heart, and vulnerability to the role. He is supported by a strong cast that includes George Lopez, Bruna Marquezine, and Susan Sarandon. The humor in the film is well-balanced, with some genuinely funny moments that never undercut the emotional weight and central message of the story–family.
The action sequences in Blue Beetle are very good, with some impressive visual effects. The film also features a unique style full of neon blues and purples. This “look” helps to create a vibrant and energetic atmosphere that perfectly suits the film’s tone.
One of the things that makes Blue Beetle so special is its deft handling of the Blue Beetle legacy. The film does a great job of introducing the character to a new audience while also honoring his 84 year comic history. I think that this is a film that will appeal to both longtime fans of the character and newcomers alike.
I also appreciated the fact that Jaime Reyes refused to kill, as any good superhero should. In a world where violence is often the answer, it was nice to see a superhero who was willing to fight for what was right without resorting to murder.
Overall, Blue Beetle is a good experience for fans of superhero movies and anyone who is looking for a fun and visually interesting film.
