So Late In the Day by Claire Keegan – A Book Review

I happened to pick this book up at my local library, primarily due to the fact it was very slim and I’d never read Claire Keegan.

So Late In the Day proved a quick, thought-provoking read. Comprised of three short stories, this collection delves into the ways men seek to both overpower and belittle women. In some cases, this mistreatment is subtle or verbal. In other cases, the abuse is overt and violent.

However, the collection is not heavy handed with its themes or message. Keegan writes deftly, with precise descriptions and almost imperceptible character development. In fact, every character we meet in the book is interesting in their own unique way, and some range from irritatingly sexist to outright deranged.

If you’re looking for a very well written quick read that explores the disturbing liberties men take with women, I highly recommend So Late In the Day.
