No One Will Save You – A Movie Review

No One Will Save You is a science fiction/horror film that leaves the viewer with conflicted thoughts. Directed by Brian Duffield and starring Kaitlyn Dever, the film follows Brynn Adams, a young woman who is shunned by her community for initially unknown reasons. When a group of hostile aliens invade, Brynn must find a way to survive on her own.

The film is a unique and thought-provoking experience. One of its most striking features is the absence of dialogue. Except for one powerful line at the end of the film, the entire movie is played out with not even a single uttered word. This choice forces the viewer to focus on Brynn’s physical performance and the film’s atmospheric elements. It also creates a sense of isolation and dread, which is perfect for a horror film and appropriate for Brynn’s character.

Another intriguing aspect of the film is the mystery of why Brynn is such a social outcast. The film eventually reveals the cause, but the the ambiguity throughout most of the film creates a sense of suspense and intrigue, and it helps to make Brynn a more sympathetic character.

The film’s dreamlike atmosphere is another one of its strengths. Brynn’s home is a sanctuary, a place where she can feel safe and secure. However, the outside world is a hostile place, full of danger and uncertainty. This contrast between the safety of Brynn’s home and the hostility of the outside world is realized well in the film’s visuals and sound design.

However, as much as I enjoyed Dever’s silent performance and the film’s frenetic pace, I have to admit a few things disrupted my suspension of disbelief. The aliens, for one, seemed awfully generic. While we got a variety of the same general species, they never even hinted at why different versions existed. They also did very little to set these gray aliens apart from the many other gray aliens we’ve seen in the past. Speaking of which, a few shots were perhaps intended as homages, but they were a little too on the nose for my liking. I saw literal reenactments of scenes from Fire In the Sky, Independence Day, and The Shining.

On a positive note, the film’s ending is ambiguous, and it is left up to the viewer to decide Brynn’s ultimate fate. I have ideas of my own, but I don’t want to spoil things …

No One Will Save You is a well-crafted and interesting movie that is sure to stay with you long after you have seen it. It is a film that raises questions about the nature of humanity, the importance of acceptance, and the dangers of isolation.
